This position will be based in the Kennewick Office, however there is an opportunity to be housed in the Walla Walla Office. The majority of travel will place in Benton, Franklin, Columbia, and Walla Walla Counties.The current opportunity in this area is an Assistant State Auditor (ASA) position. This role may be filled at the ASA 1, 2, or 3 level. Please see details on each of these levels below.To learn more about our agency, the work we do, and the opportunities here for your, visit our website at http://www.sao.wa.gov/.DutiesAssistant State Auditor 1This is the first level of our in-training program for staff with little audit experience. The Office provides classes, on-the-job training time, and work product review and feedback to assist new auditors in gaining skills to move to the next level. Most work is completed in the field at the governmental entity, with employees working in teams.Assistant State Auditor 2In this second level of our in-training program, auditors continue to build upon the experience they gained through work as an Assistant State Auditor 1, our Internship program, or comparable work at another organization. At this level, employees may to be assigned opportunities to plan and conduct audits under the guidance of their supervisor.Assistant State Auditor 3This is the journey level of our Assistant State Auditor series. Staff at this level are responsible for planning and conducting risk-based financial & legal compliance, audits of Washington State agencies and local governments. They may also perform special investigations pertaining to citizen concerns and/or frauds. Journey level auditors review the work and provide mentoring to in-training level staff.QualificationsSuccessful Assistant State Auditors come from many backgrounds. We emphasize strong communication skills, the ability to build effective working relationships, excellent time management skills, and a strong desire for professional development.Assistant State Auditor 1 Requires a Bachelor's degree, which includes 10 semester hours or 15 quarter hours in accounting coursework.Assistant State Auditor 2 Requires a Bachelor's degree, which includes 10 semester hours or 15 quarter hours in accounting coursework and one year of professional experience in auditing, accounting, finance, banking, investigation or two years of other related professional level work experience.Assistant State Auditor 3 Requires a Bachelor's degree, which includes 10 semester hours or 15 quarter hours in accounting coursework and two years of professional experience in auditing, accounting, finance, banking, investigation that includes at least one year of audit experience.Supplemental InformationBenefits of Working for the State of Washington and the State Auditor's Office (SAO)As a full-time State employee you accrue vacation (12-22 days per year) and sick leave (1 day per month).
