Conduct exercise and pharmacologic cardiac stress tests following
established protocols and provider orders. Perform thorough
pre-test patient assessments including health history, medication
review, vital signs and contraindication screening. Place and
monitor EKG leads, blood pressure, oxygen saturation and other
physiologic indicators throughout testing. Recognize EKG changes,
arrhythmias or clinical deterioration and escalate or intervene per
nursing scope and provider direction. Administer stress-test
medications (e.g., regadenoson/Lexiscan, dobutamine) safely and
document responses. Document procedures, patient responses and
clinical data accurately in the EMR. Provide clear patient
education on the procedure, expectations, risks and follow-up
instructions. Ensure equipment functionality, cleanliness and
readiness; troubleshoot common issues quickly and effectively.
Collaborate with cardiologists, technologists and diagnostic teams
to coordinate testing and patient flow. Maintain compliance with
regulatory standards such as Joint Commission requirements and
state nursing practice acts. Qualifications Active, unencumbered
Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice BLS and ACLS
certification(s) required Experience with cardiac stress testing
(exercise and pharmacologic) and EKG monitoring/interpretation
Competence administering regadenoson (Lexiscan) and dobutamine per
protocol Ability to respond to cardiac emergencies and provide
immediate nursing interventions Strong communication and
patient-education skills Knowledge & Skills Cardiac physiology and
EKG interpretation EKG placement and continuous monitoring Vital
signs and SpO2 monitoring Medication administration within RN scope
EMR documentation and accurate clinical charting Patient assessment
and contraindication screening Equipment maintenance and basic
troubleshooting Collaboration with cardiology and diagnostic teams
