RE-POST POSITION #7062: PARA/LUNCH TIME SUPERVISION/TITLE SCHOOL AA DEGREE OR EQUIVALENT REQUIRED POSTING DATES: 8/8/2018 - 8/15/2018 (or until filled) LOCATION: Park Middle School HOURS: 2.0 hours per day (11 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.), 180 days per year JOB DESCRIPTION: The person in this position will work directly with students in the classroom and on the playground settings with the goal of maintaining a safe and orderly environment. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT * Must have an AA degree OR 72 quarter college credits OR 48 semester college credits OR a passing score on the ETS Para-Pro test. * Must attach transcript of highest level of education to application. Official transcripts of all levels of education, including high school, required within thirty (30) days of hire. * Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. * Must be able to meet the Physical Demands of the position. * Must pass a basic skills test. * Completion of Safe Schools Web Based Training within thirty (30) days of hire and yearly thereafter. * Must pass a background check, which includes employee paid fingerprinting. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED * Must uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures. * Must take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities. * Must attend in-service trainings or other meetings as required, as well as attend any training as directed by management. * Evidence of ability to assess and correct issues involving safety. * Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative and effective relationship with students, parents, staff, fellow employees and management. * Evidence of ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner, working toward the common goal of teamwork, pride in service delivery and continuous improvement. * Must demonstrate sufficient command of the English language to communicate verbally and in writing with students, parents, district staff members and other concerned people regarding all aspects of their job related activities. * Must be able to use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information and read and respond to email. * Must be willing to become first-aid certified if required. QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED * Positive evaluations and recommendations that support character and work ethic. * Excellent attendance, punctuality, dependability, self-disciplined, and a self-starter. * Evidence of recent successful experience working with students of diverse ethnic background * Ability to relate effectively with children. * Evidence of ability to follow directions from supervising teacher and carry out prescribed instructional management program. * Evidence of ability to model appropriate behaviors and consistent intervention procedures with students. * Flexible and able to work in a team situation. * Evidence of ability to use office equipment including keyboarding and data processing using a computer. * Evidence of ability to be punctual to assigned responsibilities with the schedule; good attendance record. * Evidence of ability to be self-disciplined and a self-starter. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES The paraeducator in this position will: * Assist with instruction as directed by certificated staff using developmentally appropriate activities. * Participate in assessment activities. * Maintain records as necessary. * Prepare instructional materials as requested. * Independently supervise playground and crosswalk duties as assigned.. * Maintain confidentiality with all school-related information. * Assist in supervision and control of students in order to promote a safe, orderly, positive learning climate in and around the building. * Accomplish all tasks in a professional manner. Model appropriate and healthy adult behavior. Interact with people and speak in a manner that reflects community standards of politeness, civility and human sensitivity. * Perform all other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor pertaining to job classification. * Perform all duties of the position within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee must be able to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone. The employee is required to taste and smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, far vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. * Lifting: The employee must be able to lift or move up to 18-26 pounds; must also be able to lift overhead. The employee may be required to physically move quickly in an emergency or while performing student supervision duties. Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
