Bilingual Required Posting Dates: 5/28/2019 ? 6/4/2019 Location: Highlands Middle School Hours: 4 Hours per Day (8 a.m. ? 12 p.m., Monday-Friday), June 19th ? July 18th (No school July 4th or 5th) Salary: $12.50 ? $18.71 DOE (Tier II) This Is A Temporary Position For Summer School Only. Leave Benefits May Not Be Earned Or Used. July 4th Holiday Is Paid. JOB DESCRIPTION The paraeducator will assist the classroom teachers by supervising students, taking daily attendance, updating records, and performing other job-related duties as assigned. The paraeducator must commit to working the entire summer school session. (No vacation/deduct days will be approved.) To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT * AA Degree or equivalent. * Must be able to meet the Physical Demands of the position. * Must pass bilingual test. * Must pass a basic skills test. * Must pass a Background Check, including employee paid fingerprinting. * A transcript must be provided within thirty (30) days of employment. * Must commit to working the entire summer school session. (No vacation/deduct days will be approved.) QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED * Bilingual in Spanish and English, an assessment will be given and passing score must be met. * Must uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures. * Must take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities. * Must attend in-service trainings or other meetings as required, as well as attend any training as directed by management. * Evidence of ability to assess and correct issues involving safety. * Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative and effective relationship with students, parents, staff, fellow employees and management. * Evidence of ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner, working toward the common goal of teamwork, pride in service delivery and continuous improvement * Must demonstrate sufficient command of the English language to communicate verbally and in writing with students, parents, district staff members and other concerned people regarding all aspects of their job related activities. * Must be able to use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information and read and respond to email. QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED * Previous experience working with middle school aged students in a school setting and the ability to successfully manage a classroom or small group. * Able to supervise middle school aged students in a video room. * Strong communication skills and the ability to contact parents daily and share attendance and performance of students. * Positive evaluations and recommendations that support character and work ethic. * Excellent attendance, punctuality, and dependability; evidence of ability to be self-disciplined and a self-starter. * Evidence of awareness of need of the limited-English speaking child. * Preference will be given to current bilingual program staff. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: The paraeducator in this position will: * Assist with instruction * Take attendance daily and communicate with parents as needed. * Prepare instructional materials as needed. * Participate in assessment activity. * Assist with home/school communication and involve parents in activities which will benefit their children. * When necessary, act as translator for written communications, conferences, etc. * Monitor students in the classroom. * Update course materials and records as requested by the instructor. * Assist students with their educational needs. * Perform all duties of the position within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality. * Must be available to work entire summer session. * Perform other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee must be able to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone. The employee is required to taste and smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, far vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. * Lifting:The employee must be able to lift or move up to 18-26 pounds; must also be able to lift overhead. The employee may be required to physically move quickly in an emergency or while performing student supervision duties.
